Little Lake Discovery Center Boardwalk
A raised boardwalk through wetlands offering close-up views of marsh vegetation, reflective water, and abundant waterfowl and shorebirds. Best at golden hours for warm light and mirror-like reflections; spring and fall migration bring the most bird activity. Easy access from Little Lake Discovery Center with onsite parking and generally free entry; boardwalk is largely level and family/ADA friendly. Weekday mornings are least crowded; bring insect repellent in summer.

Hankens Wildlife Area
Small wetland and prairie preserve ideal for bird and marshland photography—shorebirds, waterfowl, and seasonal migrants. Golden hour and early morning provide soft light and active wildlife; autumn brings color and migrating flocks. Accessible trails and roadside pull-offs park near the entrance at 5422 10th Ave; likely free access but expect minimal facilities. Pack insect repellent, waterproof boots after rain, and quiet clothing to avoid disturbing wildlife.
